Mazda MazdaSpeed 2 Prototype

Only time will tell how far Mazda will push its Mazda 2 in terms of performance.  However, we have here a glimpse of what it might look like in MazdaSpeed form.  Imagine if they even mildly turbocharge it to produce 200hp, pair it with a 6-speed transmission, and sell it around $19k, Mazda would be selling them like pancakes.  Someone can organize a racing league, MazdaSpeed 2 version the Honda Fit.  That would be very entertaining to watch or participate in.

2010 Mazda MazdaSpeed 3

The MazdaSpeed 3 will be an iconic car for decades to come.  Sure, kids don’t lust over it and put a poster of it in their bedroom walls.  But what makes it special is that it delivers a lot for the money.  It has a 2.3 liter turbocharged engine that generates 263 horsepowers and is tied to a 6-speed close-ratio manual transmission.  It has the practicality of a hot hatch, while its turbo-based powerplant makes it open to forced-induction mods.  The only thing not to like is that it’s Front Wheel Drive, but Mazda has done some clever tuning to compensate for that.  Otherwise, it’s a lot of performance for the money.

2008 Lamborghini Murcielago

Lamborghini is known for its exotic and much loved Countach and Diablo.  It was quite a tall order to develop something that would be even better than a Diablo.  Well, Lamborghini rose up to the challenge and came up with the Murcielago.  True to form with the naming convention creating by Ferruccio Lamborghini, the Murcielago is a term known in bull fighting.  Specifically, Murcielago was the name of a well-known fighting bull.

When the Murcielago was unveiled, it polarized the public into those who love it and those who hate it.  Admittedly, I was in the hate side, since I thought the Diablo was already perfect.  Later on I grew to appreciate the Murcielago.  This one still has a

2010 Morgan Aero SuperSports

Morgan made its first appearance at the Olympia Motor Show in 1910, with a three-wheeled single seater on display.  Fast forward to today and we have the 2010 Morgan Aero SuperSports.  It has evolved quite considerably from its forebears.  The chassis is now made of lightweight aluminum that is adhesively bonded for superb rigidity.  Its powertrain has also evolved, now with a BMW 4.8 Liter V8, mated to a 6-speed transmission (choice of Automatic or Manual).  With those enhancements come the same high-quality polished hardwoods, and hand stitched leather interior.  These were taken during the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show and is simply beautiful in person.

1989 Lamborghini Countach

Let’s have a show of hands.  Who here knows what a Lamborghini Countach is?  Who has a poster of it in their room?  Who knows someone who has a poster of it in their room?

Chances are, most people would have raised their hands.  The Lamborghini Countach is one of the most iconic exotics in the 1980s.  Its distinctive angular shape, coupled with tons of horsepower, and distinctive Lambo scissor doors set it apart from the rest.  These were taken during the 2008 Los Angeles Concours, and is in excellent condition.  It was post-processed with an aged look to bring back the memories.

2008 Maserati Quattroporte

If you were in the market for a $120K (in 2010 money) four-door luxury car, which would you get: a Mercedes S Class, or a BMW 7 Series?  Personally, I would get a Maserati Quattroporte.  Sure, you don’t get the precision engineering of a German luxury car.  However, you get Italian passion.

Look at the curves of that body, very sleek and provocative.  Inside is a wonderful interior with awesome seats.  Turn on the engine and it awakes your senses with a V8 symphony.  Back in 2008, Maserati was still owned by Ferrari (today in 2010 it is owned by Alfa Romeo).  With that Ferrari influence came the a Ferrari-based engine.  The Quattroporte’s 4.0 liter engine is based on a Ferrari 360 engine, with displacement raised to 4.0 liters, slightly detuned in terms of HP/Liter output.  Plus, for those insane enough to hire a driver to drive it, there’s an option to have an airline-style folding table for back seat passengers.

Why else would you get a Quattroporte over a BMW or Mercedes?  Well, you will be among the few who own one.
